Yesterday I went on a day trip to the charming little town of Kutna Hora, about an hour train ride outside of Prague. The town isn't much to look at (like I hoped) once I stepped off the train. But just a few blocks from the train station is the Sedlec Ossuary (The Famous "Bone Church.") The Sedlec Ossuary is a small Roman Catholic Chapel. The Ossuary contains approximately 40,000-70,000 human skeletons which have been artistically arrange to form decorations, (even a chandelier) for the chapel. Four enormous mounds of bones occupy the corners of the chapel. The chandelier of bones contains at least one of every bone in the human body.
After I visited the Ossuary it was about a 45 minute walk into town from there. At times on the walk I doubted my talent as a human compass, but after the long walk in the hot sun I saw cobble stone; this is how I knew I was close. Once you hit the cobble stone the town presents itself to you, and you feel a big relief that you finally found it! Kutna Hora is a relatively small town, but in it's defense it's a great get away for a day. After searching around and looking at different menus, (I didn't want to just eat at the first place I saw) I found a cute little garden cafe called "Harmonia Cafe" here I enjoyed my lunch and read my book for a few chapters of time. After my lunch I explored the town and of course had to get ice cream! The town is very colorful, in pink, yellow, green and blue! I felt like I was walking through a story book, with my colorful ice cream to match. After exploring the lower town, I started to hike up the hill in search of Church of St. Barbara. Once I got to the Church, I started to hear thunder, and see lighting! Eventually it started to rain, which I actually really enjoyed; (except my camera lens didn't thoroughly enjoy it quite as much.) The view from the top is really exceptional; with lush green hills, vineyards, and a view of the town below! I enjoyed my short stay in Kutna Hora, and I recommend going after you feel like you need a short break from Prague.
